Mark Zuckerberg MISSION for Facebook is to bring the world closer!

We all know what Facebook is and who is behind it right? Well, but do you know that the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has lately written a new mission statement: to “give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together”?

From quite some time, Zuckerberg has been reconsidering the role of Facebook, reacting to the increase of nationalism and isolationism, and the weakening of membership in local community groups around the world.
Connecting the folks on the platform of Facebook, which Zuckerberg states is now “very close” to having two billion users, was supposed to make it more convenient to form bonds across the cultures and different ideologies. Instead, the government elections of the last couple of years have apparently shown deep division, and Facebook has been engrossed in the debate, critiquedand criticised because the platform has played a part in the spread of misleading news and radical ideology.
Zuckerberg stated in an interview with Bloomberg, “Our mission of connecting people, that was not supposed to be controversial,” “So now the question is, why that is a controversial thing, and how do you rebuild that?” Zuckerberg feels that the part of the answer remains in facilitating stronger ties between users on Facebook, who might not have started out as piece of the same families or friend groups.
This new mission statement got unveiled at Facebook’s first Communities Summit in Chicago on Friday, meant to stimulate the administrators of Facebook Groups. Zuckerberg says that he now reflects those admins as significant to Facebook as its advertisers and software developers.
Well, Facebook’s Communities Summit has been considered as a much tinier version of f8, Facebook’s flagship event for the developers and the press. This two-day long developer conference fascinated thousands of attendees when it was held in the month of April, and was the glass case for a sequence of product announcements related to augmented reality and camera tools.
The event held on Friday, 23rd June 2017 was mainly structured around a sequence of workshops designed to teach three hundred moderators to use the new community tools of Facebook, a main way the company is hoping to address the controversy around service’s role in a strong and healthy democracy.
Zuckerberg also said that Facebook will add improved data analysis tools to help the moderators understand. For example, which members are more engaged, and software that would make it easier to remove posts when required.
Facebook said it seeks to have 1 billion people engaged in “meaningful groups.” During his speech, Zuckerberg said“If we do this, it will not only reverse the whole decline in community membership we’ve seen for the last decade, it’s going to strengthen our overall social fabric and bring the world closer together,”.
Zuckerberg is on a tour around the country, as part of a personal challenge to visit all the 50 states. During his tour, he has met various community leaders who have given feedback on Groups, and how much time it takes to examine members and organize action.
